Our Patient Participation Group (PPG) meets to provide a forum for discussion about the practice.

About the Patient Participation Group

The Patient Participation Group is a group made up of patients registered at the practice who are interested in their health needs as well as the needs of the community. The Aim of the Group is:

  • To promote co-operation between the practice and patients;
  • To encourage health care education in the practice.
  • Develop self-help projects to meet the needs of fellow patients.
  • Organise and develop a local “survey” with patient input;
  • Understand issues affecting patients; Developing action plans that address patient issues;

8th January 2026 

  • Present: Summer (Interim Practice Manager), Zoe (Operations Manager) & Nina, Christina & Barbara (patient’s)
  • Summer welcomed everyone to the meeting and introduced the agenda.

Quarterly report

Appointment Data

Total booked appointments last month: approximately 5,500. DNA rate 5.3% - higher than target of 3%. Text message cancellation system in place but some patients still fail to attend.

Patient Feedback on Systems

Duplicate appointment reminders identified as ongoing issue. Patients receiving multiple texts/emails for same appointments. Reception team away morning planned end of month to address duplication issues. Some patients attending unnecessarily due to communication errors.

Staffing Updates

One new GP just started, Dr Buss, was previously here as GP registrar 18 months ago and another new GP will be starting February Dr Morgan who is currently a GP registrar and is staying on with the practice. Practice manager on maternity leave, therefore some changes within the operational management staff have been organised for a 9-10 month period. Nursing team strengthened compared to previous year. Physios and pharmacists available through PCN.

Clinical Initiatives

HRT and biscuits menopause sessions running. Group consultations planned for hypertension and diabetes. Funding secured for expanded group consultation programme.

Patient Access System

Klinik system recently implemented replacing Accrux. Mixed patient feedback - some finding navigation difficult, particularly older patients. System provides more detailed triage information but increased complexity. Staff support available for patients struggling with online forms. Reception can complete forms for patients unable to use system. Capping system removed - manual closure only when clinically unsafe to take more appointments.

Infrastructure Developments

Website updated with staff photos and improved functionality. Google review rating 4.3 stars. Friends and family test showing 312 positive, 15 neutral, 11 negative responses last month.

Parking Changes

Recent parking reorganisation implemented. One additional patient space created. Some initial confusion but generally positive feedback. Disabled spaces available for temporary use whilst waiting.

Riverside Redevelopment

Funding secured for Riverside site redevelopment. Plans include additional consultation room, improved waiting area, kitchen facilities. Closure expected for approximately one year during works. Lease arrangements mean cost considerations during closure period.

Potential boundary expansion proposals

Potential boundary expansion under consideration to include areas across river with planned housing developments. Lengthy approval process required. Aim to gradually increase patient numbers to secure additional funding for more staff.

Community Engagement

Discussion of local health initiatives and community groups. Suggestion to utilise Brislington News for practice communications. Community notice board arrangements reviewed.
